About Manila Zoo
Manila Zoo opened on July 25, 1959, and was the only public zoo in the city. Over the years, it had problems and arguments. On January 23, 2019, it closed because it was causing pollution in Manila Bay.
The mayor at that time, Isko Moreno, decided to fix the zoo. In July 2020, he gave ₱1.7 billion for its repair. The zoo had a soft opening in December 2021.
Manila Zoo is open again today! It has 550 animals, including 13 mammals, 38 birds, and 21 reptiles. The star attractions are Ma’ali, a female Asian elephant, and Kois the White Tiger, a male white Siberian tiger.
Skilled veterinarians take care of the animals and their homes. Apart from animals, there’s a botanical garden with over 10,000 plants at Manila Zoo.
